Hello! My name is Marinus. I'm from a city in eastern Canada, not too far from the ocean. My family has a rich cultural background, with European roots. There's some French, some Austrian and some German in my heritage. Because of having lived in Germany for some time, I am bilingual in English and German. This made it easy for me to learn additional languages. Now, after living in 5 different countries, I am proficient in Spanish, French and Cambodian. This supplies me with a deep understanding of the challenges you face when learning a new language.
In Canada, I enjoy going canoeing, whale watching, hiking and fishing. I guess you could say that I love the outside. Sitting by a bonfire on a cliff while watching the whales far away feed on fish to the sunset is one of my fondest memories.
Music is also a big hobby of mine. I always loved the piano and took lessons for some years. Later I took a course at a university to tune pianos professionally. And playing the guitar is and has been a great creative outlet for me as well.
But my real passion is learning and teaching languages. While completing a degree that focused on language acquisition methodology, I learned that there are more than 40 different ways and methods to study a language, all of which are based on research of how young children learn their mother tongue. Using these methods, I started teaching English and German privately, in group settings and online. And after acquiring some experience, I joined the Sprout program in 2015.
Learning languages online is a fantastic innovation. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Sprout program and have seen many students progress with their skill and self-confidence in speaking English. The program connects you with great and caring native speakers and provides good education in the comfort of your own home. Knowing a lot of the teachers personally, I fully testify to the quality of learning offered.
I'm really looking forward to meeting you personally and sharing this experience with you, too!
